Gas engineers and installers have many opportunities.

There are lots of opportunities, from local employers to large nationwide firms such as British Gas and Homeserve. There is the opportunity to progress in these types of companies to supervisory and managerial type roles.

There is the ability to move away from the domestic and commercial side of gas engineering and move into gas exploration which could involve working on rigs out at sea and in foreign countries rich in natural reserves. Other opportunities outside of the U.K. commonly include Australia, New Zealand and the United States where gas services are highly sought after also.

Many gas engineers and installers become self-employed or work as contractors and this could be an avenue that you decide to take after a few years of gaining experience. Potential customers are office firms, residential property owners, insurance companies, building firms and local authorities. Working for yourself could mean that you decide what hours you work and what amount of money you charge.
