Typically, an electrician works 40 hours per week, you will always have the possibility to work weekends and evenings as well as shift work.

Self-employment
Many electricians are self-employed or work as contractors, while others are employed by a wide range of employers such as building firms, local authorities, engineering companies, electrical manufacturers and power suppliers.

As an electrician you will have a variety of different jobs, you can work both indoors and outdoors, in residential areas as well as building sites and commercial buildings. You can also choose to work on different sites making the work very stimulating.

There are a lot of opportunities, from small and local employers that employ few operatives to huge national, multi-service companies employing thousands of individuals worldwide. Many individuals decide to become self-employed and start their own company.
